No fewer than 100 people have been killed in Christmas Eve attacks on two local governments in Plateau State.
The number of the dead could be as much as 140, according to some media reports.
Armed groups invaded 20 villages in Bokkos Local Government Area and three in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area in what locals say was coordinated attacks.
The villages were reportedly attacked from Saturday night to Monday morning with little resistance.
The acting chairman of Bokkos Local Government Area, Monday Kassah, told Reuters that more than 300 people were injured in the attacks but did not say who was responsible.
The Nigerian federal government and the police have yet to comment on the issue as of Tuesday morning.
