Erling Haaland has broken the Premier League record for goals scored in a 38-game season with his 33rd of the current season on Wednesday.

The Norwegian scored the final goal in Manchester City’s 4-1 defeat of league leaders, Arsenal, firing home a left-footed shot in stoppage time.

He now has one goal more than the Egyptian, Mo Salah, who held the record for most goals in a 38-game season since 2017-18, when he scored 32 for Liverpool.

Haaland leveled Salah's tally during City’s 3-1 win over Leicester on 15 April before breaking the record on Wednesday.

But he's still not the highest single-season goalscorer in EPL history, with Andrew Cole and Alan Shearer both racking up 34 goals in 1993-94 and 1994-95 respectively when clubs had to play 42 matches in a season.

Haaland could surpass both of them, with City having seven top matches remaining this season.

The 22-year-old has been prolific in front of goal in his first Premier League spell, having nicked 49 goals in all competitions.

He has 12 in eight appearances in the Champions League, three in three in the FA Cup, and one goal in two Carabao Cup outings.
