Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has voiced his concern over the inefficiency of Nigeria’s four refineries despite substantial investments and numerous attempts to revitalise them.
In a televised interview, Obasanjo recounted his efforts to persuade Shell to manage the country’s refineries. The international oil company declined, citing excessive corruption within the sector as the reason.
Obasanjo asserted that individuals profiting from the lucrative fuel importation business would obstruct the progress of the Dangote Petroleum Refinery.
Some weeks ago, the President of the Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, disclosed that certain 'mafias' were attempting to undermine the $20 bn refinery.
