The Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami says President Muhammadu Buhari did not breach the Supreme Court’s injunction regarding the Naira redesign and use of old naira notes.
The minister made this known on Thursday while speaking at the 67th ministerial press briefing at the state house in Abuja.
Malami noted that going by the rule of law, there are many options available.
Recall that a seven-member panel of the Supreme Court had restrained the CBN from implementing the deadline on the usage of the old N200, N500, and N1000 notes.
An injunction that follows an ex parte application brought before the court by three northern states – Kaduna, Kogi, and Zamfara states, seeking the suspension of the CBN's deadline on old notes.
However, in a broadcast, the president restored the validity of the old N200 notes, while maintaining that the old 500 and 1000 notes had ceased to be legal tender.
