The Court of Appeal in Abuja has affirmed Bashir Machina as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Yobe North senatorial district.
Machina won the party’s primary election in May but his name was substituted with that of the president of the senate, Ahmed Lawan who had failed in his bid to become the APC’s presidential candidate.
Machina was reportedly asked to withdraw for Lawan but he insisted he would not.
INEC refused to list any senatorial candidate for Yobe North, forcing Machina to go to court to make the electoral umpire declare him as the authentic senatorial candidate of the APC.
In September, a Federal High Court in Damaturu, the Yobe State capital, ordered the APC and INEC to recognize Machina as the senatorial candidate for the district.
The APC appealed the ruling but the Appeal Court upheld the ruling of the High Court.
