Lagos is hosting the E1 GP, the first African leg of the all-electric powerboat racing series on October 4 and 5.

Qualifying races kick off on Saturday, October 4, starting at 4 p.m., setting the stage for the high-stakes final day. The action begins at about 11 a.m. on Sunday, October 5, with group races, followed by a race-off and culminating in the finals.

Nine racing teams will vie for the top honors on Lagos Lagoon, each fielding cutting-edge electric “RaceBird” boats in what organizers describe as a powerful blend of sport, innovation, and marine sustainability.

The teams are backed by some of the world’s biggest names:

  • Team Brady — owned by Tom Brady.

  • Team Rafa — championed by Rafael Nadal.

  • Team AlUla — championed by LeBron James.

  • Team Blue Rising — owned by Virat Kohli.

  • Team Drogba — co-owned by African football legend Didier Drogba and Gabrielle Lemaire.

  • Team Brazil by Claure Group — owned by Marcelo Claure.

  • Team Miami powered by Magnus — owned by Marc Anthony.

  • Aoki Racing Team — owned by Steve Aoki.

  • Westbrook Racing — owned by Will Smith.

The teams' pilots have already begun testing the waters ahead of competition, fine-tuning performance and strategy in familiarization runs.

With only one point separating the top two teams in the overall championship going into Lagos, the stakes could not be higher. Team Brady leads with 135 points, just ahead of Team Rafa on 134, while Team Aoki and Team Blue Rising are close behind in the title fight.
