Lagos State will begin full enforcement of the ban on Single Use Plastics (SUPs) from July 1.
Tokunbo Wahab, the Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, announced this measure via X on Monday, emphasizing the strategic planning and dialogue that have taken place over the past 18 months.
The ban is a part of the state's broader commitment to align with global environmental practices. Wahab highlighted the extensive engagement with stakeholders, including marketers and producers of SUPs, which was further reinforced during a recent meeting with TETRA PAK West Africa Limited, represented by Managing Director Mr. Haithem Debbiche.
"This initiative is about environmental responsibility," Wahab stated. "We’ve provided ample time for adaptation to these changes, ensuring alignment with global best practices. What is unacceptable elsewhere cannot become standard in Lagos. We are committed to protecting our future and advancing the greater good."

"A cleaner, healthier Lagos is within reach if we all play our part," Wahab concluded, urging all residents and businesses to cooperate in this vital endeavor.
