Nigeria and Saudi Arabia have signed a five-year defense and military cooperation agreement aimed at strengthening security collaboration between the two countries, Nigeria’s defense ministry said Tuesday.

The deal focuses on military training, intelligence sharing, defense production and joint operations, according to a statement from Ahmed Dan Wudil, media aide to Nigeria’s Minister of State for Defence, Mohammed Bello Matawalle.

Wudil said the memorandum of understanding “will remain in force for a term of five years and may be renewed for a similar period.”

It will take effect once both countries exchange final written notifications through diplomatic channels.

The pact can be terminated by either country with a written notice at least three months before the proposed end date, the ministry said.

Matawalle described the agreement as a significant step toward expanding bilateral ties and tackling emerging security threats affecting Nigeria and the broader region.
