The Labour Party's presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Peter Obi, has declared that the solution to Nigeria's challenges lies in the development of Northern Nigeria.
Speaking to Northern leaders on Sunday under the National Political Consultative Group, Obi emphasized the region's potential as a significant asset for the country's future.
He addressed notable figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, and identified poverty as the root cause of crime and insecurity in the North.
He urged investment in education as the most effective way to combat poverty.
According to a statement signed by Ibrahim Umar, the POMR spokesman, Obi encouraged Northern voters to move beyond religious and tribal considerations and prioritize competence and capacity in future elections.
He stressed the importance of fostering trust among Nigerians to address national issues beyond ethnic and religious divides.
Drawing parallels to successful agrarian nations like Bangladesh and the Netherlands, Obi highlighted Northern Nigeria's untapped potential, attributing its challenges to a lack of good governance and policy implementation.
