A former President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki is advocating for a consensus candidate among presidential aspirants of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
Dr. Saraki who is also a presidential hopeful made this known while briefing journalists after a closed-door meeting with some co-aspirants in Bayelsa State.
The governors of Sokoto, Bayelsa, and Bauchi States; Aminu Tambuwal, Douye Diri, and Bala Mohammed were in attendance at the meeting.
Dr. Saraki believes the quest by some presidential aspirants in the PDP to form a united front will give the party an advantage to take over power from the All Progressives Congress (APC).
According to him, the interest of Nigeria supersedes individual ambitions and is the reason he is consulting on how to reach a consensus on the flagbearer of the party.
Meanwhile, Bayelsa State governor, Senator Douye Diri, insisted the PDP must not be factionalised as a result of individual ambitions.
He commended the move by Dr. Saraki and co-aspirants.
