Wazobia FM brought Ajegunle to life on Saturday as it marked World Heart Day with a special Heart Waka for Life.
The walk, which began at the Ajeromi Ifelodun Local Government Area headquarters at 7 a.m., saw participants march through the community to Maracana Stadium for fitness activities aimed at promoting healthier living.
The Executive Chairman of Ajeromi Ifelodun, Hon. Olalekan Olu Akindipe, popularly known as LampHolder, joined the walk alongside residents. He said the event was about more than exercise.
“This walk is an important step toward building stronger, healthier lifestyles in our community. We want people to see that fitness can be fun and beneficial,” he said.
The atmosphere was further energized by Wazobia FM presenters, who brought their trademark energy off the airwaves and onto the streets.
They were joined by celebrities such as Korexx, Cute Abiola, Aproko Doctor, Kemen, Kaffy, Kenny Blaq, and Broda Shaggi. Online support also came from Mr Macaroni and Gossip Loaded.
Speaking before the event, the General Manager of Wazobia FM, Cool FM, Nigeria Info FM, and Kids FM, Femi Obong-Daniels, explained the goal.
“The Heart Walk is designed to get everyone in Ajegunle involved in fitness and health awareness. Walking is simple, but it goes a long way in keeping our hearts healthy,” he noted.
Program Managers and On-Air Personalities from the stations also emphasized the health benefits of regular walking, pointing out its role in preventing heart disease, improving cardiovascular fitness, and boosting energy levels.
Sponsors, including Wazobia Beauty and Cosmetics, praised the initiative as a meaningful way to promote public health.
World Heart Day is observed globally to raise awareness about cardiovascular diseases, the leading cause of death worldwide. By staging the Heart Waka in Ajegunle, Wazobia FM says it hopes to inspire Nigerians to embrace simple lifestyle changes like walking and exercise.
For many who turned out, the Heart Waka was not just a walk; it was a movement that blended fun, fitness, and community spirit in the heart of Ajegunle.
