The Kano State government has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to sack the Commissioner of Police in the state, accusing him of sabotaging Nigeria’s 65th Independence Day celebration in Kano.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf made the call on Tuesday morning while addressing residents at the Sani Abacha Stadium during activities marking the nation’s Independence anniversary.
The Governor alleged that the Police Commissioner deliberately ordered the withdrawal of officers assigned to provide security at the event, a move he described as “unethical, partisan and unjustifiable.”
According to him, the absence of police personnel at the venue was an attempt to undermine the historic occasion, which he said should have united Nigerians regardless of political differences.
Governor Yusuf maintained that such conduct was unbecoming of a security chief and insisted that the President should remove the Police Commissioner immediately to safeguard the neutrality and professionalism of law enforcement in the state.
The development comes amid heightened political tensions in Kano, where relations between the state government and the police have been strained in recent months.
