The executives of the dissolved All Progressives Congress leadership in Rivers State have gone to court to stop the inauguration of the caretaker committee announced by the party’s national leadership.

The court document, sighted by Nigeria Info, was filed before a Federal High Court in Abuja by Peter Ohochukwu on behalf of the party’s state executive members.

They want the court to interpret the party’s constitution, the Electoral Act, and Nigeria’s constitution.

The suit has the APC chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, and the party’s national secretary, Ajibola Basiru, representing the party’s National Working Committee as defendants.

Other defendants listed in the suit are Tony Okocha and Eric Nwibani, representing the caretaker committee.

The police and INEC were also included as defendants in the suit.

The dissolved Excos are seeking a court order to compel parties in the suit to maintain the status quo and not take actions that could affect their performance as state executives of the party.

On Wednesday, the APC National Working Committee dissolved the Rivers State executives of the party at all levels, appointing a seven-member Caretaker Committee to steer the Party’s affairs in the state for six months.

The caretaker committee was inaugurated in Abuja on Friday and has Tony Okocha as its chairman.

But the APC spokesman in Rivers state, Darlington Nwauju, said the party’s national chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, is likely to face contempt charges as the national party office has been served.
