The Lagos State Commissioner for Police, Adegoke Fayoade, has declared the ongoing #EndBadGovernanceinNigeria protest banned following President Bola Tinubu's address to protesters.
Fayoade made this statement on Sunday when speaking to reporters.
He stated that since the president has addressed demonstrators, any gathering in the state is illegal.
“In view of that, there should be no more gathering here or anywhere, any of such is considered illegal and unlawful. Since It has been called off, we will apply the full weight of the law,” he said.
President Tinubu addressed Nigeria in a national broadcast on Sunday morning.
He reeled out his government's programs and projects since taking over power on 29 May 2023 but did not address the protesters' concerns.
The president also commiserated with the families of about a dozen people reported dead since the #EndBadGovernanceinNigeria protest started on 1 August. In addition, he called for dialogue and an end to the nationwide protest.
