The federal government has blamed the shortage of gas for its inability to meet its 5,000 Megawatts power generation target.

The Minister of Power, Abubakar Aliyu disclosed this in Abuja on Wednesday after the weekly Federal Executive Council.

Mr. Aliyu said the supply of gas to generation plants has been constrained due to breakdowns, vandalism, and disruption.

He however assured Nigerians that the government has “all the ingredients” to solve the supply challenge soon.

The Minister also said the grievances of the National Union of Electricity Employees have been tabled before the Head of Service.

The electricity workers’ union embarked on a strike Wednesday to press for the payment of the entitlement of former staff of the defunct Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN).

They also picketed offices of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).
