Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to providing quality and affordable healthcare across the state.

The governor gave the assurance during the commissioning of the newly renovated and fully equipped General Hospital in Anka, which now features several upgraded facilities and new departments.

“The rehabilitation of this hospital began last year and was awarded and executed by an indigenous and highly reputable company,” Governor Lawal said. “The investment has transformed the hospital into a modern healthcare facility with state-of-the-art equipment.”

The upgrades include the renovation of key hospital sections such as the male and female wards, pharmacy block, theatre, X-ray unit, and the General Outpatient Department (GOPD).

New constructions include an Accident and Emergency unit, laboratory, eye and dental clinic, maternity ward, and a modern administrative block.

Other additions are a mosque, staff housing, antenatal care unit, and blocks of paediatric wards. The entire renovation and installation of medical and electrical equipment were completed within 12 months.

The governor says the hospital is now better positioned to serve the people of Anka and neighbouring communities, adding that the project fulfils one of his key promises to improve healthcare delivery in the state.

“To the people of Anka and surrounding communities, this project is a fulfillment of one of our promises to deliver dividends of democracy and improve the livelihood of citizens,” he said.

Governor Lawal also called on the hospital’s management and staff to ensure the facility is properly maintained.

“I urge you to work tirelessly to provide quality healthcare services to our people,” he said. “We will continue to prioritize development issues, ensuring that our people have access to quality and affordable healthcare, education, agriculture, roads, and other critical infrastructure across the state.”

The Anka General Hospital project is part of the state government’s broader efforts to revitalise public health institutions and improve access to essential services for all residents.
