The Kano State Censorship Board has declared that any event centre hosting events without renewing its operational license operates illegally.
The Executive Secretary of the Board, Abba El-Mustapha, also warned that “strict measures will be taken against any individual or organization found violating this directive.”
This is coming after the board suspended all event centres in the state as part of a move to maintain moral standards.
Speaking on Arewa Radio’s morning show on Monday, El-Mustapha stressed that “no event centre is permitted to conduct any event unless it has completed the necessary license renewal process.”
He said the move was aimed at intensifying effort by the state government to regulate and monitor public gatherings in line with existing laws and cultural values.
El-Mustapha emphasized that the government will not hesitate to sanction defaulters.
“We are calling on all event centre operators to immediately renew their licenses. Anyone found hosting events without proper documentation will face strict penalties.”
El-Mustapha also noted that enforcement teams have already been mobilised to inspect venues across the state. This move, he added, is aimed at “ensuring compliance and maintaining order.”
