The Nigerian military has debunked reports that some military officers met with a presidential candidate with the aim to disrupt the 2023 General Election.

The Acting Director of Defence Information, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau said in a statement on Sunday said that the Armed Forces of Nigeria consider the report disheartening.

He was disappointed that some politically exposed persons could “denigrate” themselves by joining “agents of destabilization” to spread the rumor and heighten tension in Nigeria.

General Gusau said the military remains apolitical and neutral in the current political process and will never be part of any plot to truncate the country's democracy.

According to him, those who engage in fabricating and spreading misinformation will be invited by the appropriate law enforcement agencies to substantiate their claims.
