The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has debunked reports that it plans to block the ThirdMainland Bridge on Wednesday.

Its Vice President of External Affairs, Babatunde Afis, told Nigeria Info that no protests were planned for the day.

This is coming two days after the student union blocked access to the Murtala Muhammed Airport, in a bid to get the federal government to meet the demands of striking university lecturers.

The lecturers have been on strike since 14 February, complaining over inadequate infrastructure in universities, funding gaps, and their own welfare.

This has meant that students of federal government-owned universities have not been in class for seven months.

NANS earlier planned to protest at the Apapa Port Complex on Tuesday but shelved the plan.
