The federal government has postponed the inauguration and retreat for pro-chancellors, chairmen, and members of the Governing Councils of federal tertiary institutions.
The inauguration will no longer be held on Thursday 30 May and Friday 31 May, and no new date has been given.
The Ministry of Education’s Director of Press and Public Relations, Folasade Boriowo said the postponement is to give room for a review of the governing boards.
About a week ago, Aso Rock said it was worried that the lists of pro-chancellors, chairmen, and governing council members did not reflect the federal character, a term used in Nigeria to refer to the distribution of appointments and resources to reflect the country’s ethnic and regional diversity.
On 23 May, it ordered a “comprehensive review” of the governing council membership.
