
Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, visited Niger State on Monday to express sympathy for the victims of the devastating flood in Mokwa that claimed hundreds of lives.
Accompanied by Sen. Nenadi Usman, the acting National Chairman of the party, and Dr. Yunusa Tanko, the National Coordinator of the Obedient Movement, Obi aimed to show solidarity with the affected communities.
During the visit, Obi met with Niger's Deputy Governor, Alhaji Yakubu Garba, at the Niger Government House.
In a statement shared on his social media, Obi reflected on the discussions held about the urgent needs of the communities, where over 200 lives have been lost, about 1,000 people remain missing, and more than 3,000 have been displaced.

Obi emphasized the importance of unity and support, urging the Federal Government, support agencies, and compassionate Nigerians to aid the people of Niger in alleviating their suffering.
He praised the local government's resilience and response efforts amid the overwhelming challenges.
As part of his commitment, Obi announced an initial donation of ₦20 million to assist the government's efforts.
He expressed prayers for comfort to the families who lost loved ones, protection for those missing, and strength for everyone affected by the disaster.
He concluded by calling for collective care and support, stating, "As a family, we must come together to care, comfort, and stand together, especially in times of grief and difficulty."
