A tragic incident unfolded Tuesday morning as armed militants ambushed and killed Mrs. Kangyang Benjamis, a 32-year-old breastfeeding mother, while she was traveling on a motorcycle near Riyom, Plateau State.

Eyewitnesses reported that the attackers, identified as armed Fulani militants, opened fire on the victims, who were traveling from Bangai to Riyom.

After the shooting, Mrs. Benjamis was taken to Riyom General Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.

Her 8-month-old baby, Dalo Benjamin, along with Mrs. Mary Monday, 52, and Mrs. Regina Monday, 50, sustained severe injuries. The baby was found injured in his mother's arms.

The Berom Youths Moulder-Association (BYM) says the attackers stole a motorcycle and were last seen heading toward the Shonong/Rankum (Mahanga) area.

The BYM has called for the removal of Fulani groups from over 151 occupied lands in Plateau State, warning that peace cannot be achieved otherwise.
