Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has distributed 140 operational vehicles to various security agencies and unveiled 50 new mass transit buses to improve public transportation across the state.

The flag-off ceremony took place on Tuesday at the Gusau Trade Fair complex, with the Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, in attendance as the guest of honour.

In a statement, the Governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, said the vehicles are part of the administration’s efforts to strengthen security and support agencies combating crime in the state.

Governor Lawal said, “Providing the security with operational vehicles will significantly improve their mobility, enhance response time, and strengthen their effectiveness in combating crime and maintaining law and order.”

He added that the distribution reflects his government’s commitment to using all available resources to tackle criminality and restore peace in Zamfara.

“We recognize the critical role of our security agencies in maintaining law and order. My administration remains firmly dedicated to ensuring they are adequately equipped and supported to carry out their responsibilities effectively,” he said.

The Governor also revealed that Zamfara has established a state-owned security outfit called the Community Protection Guards to complement existing agencies and engage communities in safeguarding their areas.

On the new mass transit buses, Governor Lawal explained that the initiative aims to enhance public transport and improve the experience for travelers within and outside the state.

“We have implemented an effective fleet management system that is customer-centric and will block revenue leakages. All buses will be monitored in real-time and equipped with free wi-fi,” he noted.

Governor Lawal also paid tribute to security personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty, saying their sacrifices will always be remembered.
