Chances are you must have heard the word about a thousand times, but what do you understand "patriarchy" to mean?
Let me explain below with this analogy as painted by Sunny Side host, Joyce Onyemuwa.
You have a business you run, a son and a daughter. Your daughter is more business inclined, while your son wants to be a disc jockey (DJ) and all. Who do you leave the business to?
The ever topical and emotion-hitting subjects of patriarchy, gender equality, and partnership in marriages, were again at the hub of the discourse on this special edition of the Sunny Side and Health Station with Joyce and Carla respectively.
Simply put, what is the problem with patriarchy? They asked.
For one caller, the answer to that question lies firmly at the feet of women.
She said, "I have never seen men as threats, but I can't convince myself that women are not the pillars sustaining patriarchy.
“There's nothing that can stand for so long without a woman being in front of it, beside it, and behind it somewhere."
However, another caller credits God for the seeming confusion with patriarchy.
Why?
Is competence now secondary to gender superiority?
Are women less than men regardless of their abilities?
