Sports analysts are still reacting to the failure of the Super Eagles to qualify for the FIFA World Cup. The Nigerian national team were knocked out after a 1-1 draw in the second leg of their qualifier against the Black Stars of Ghana in Abuja.

The first leg ended in a goalless draw in Kumasi, ensuring Ghana qualified on away goal advantage.

Super Eagles coach, Austin Eguavoen and his assistants were disengaged following the games. Their two-and-half-year contracts were withdrawn and the entire crew including Emmanuel Amuneke, Joseph Yobo, Salisu Yusuf and goalkeeper trainer, Aloysius Agu were sacked.

Sports journalist, Adaeze Michael thinks the coaching team shouldn’t have been given the jobs in the first place. “90 percent of them were not competent” She said on Game On on Nigeria Info 99.3 FM Lagos.

Speaking about Eguavon, Adaeze said, “Each time he’s been given that responsibility, he has failed. 2012, he failed.”

Adaeze also blamed the executives of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) for the inability of the Super Eagles to qualify for the world’s biggest football tournament.

She wants the federation to change from being reactionary to being proactive.

It is the first time in 16 years that Nigeria will be missing the World Cup.
