Lagos Assembly Celebrates Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary

The Lagos State House of Assembly has joined Nigerians across the country to celebrate the nation’s 65th Independence Anniversary, commending President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for his passion and dedication to building a better Nigeria.

During plenary, lawmakers also applauded the National Assembly and its leadership for their resilience in strengthening democracy and urged them to keep the nation’s democratic ideals alive.

Raising the matter under Urgent Public Importance, the House Majority Leader, Hon. Noheem Adams, praised President Tinubu for his bold reforms, especially the fuel subsidy removal, which he said has helped stabilize Nigeria’s external reserves, boost investor confidence, and improve the country’s economic standing.

He also highlighted major infrastructural projects, including the Lagos-Calabar coastal highway and key national road developments, as examples of the administration’s achievements.

Reflecting on Nigeria’s history, lawmakers recalled the nation’s struggles with ethnic divides, military coups, civil war, economic setbacks, and constitutional challenges since independence in 1960.

Hon. Aro Moshood described independence as a symbol of unity, courage, and progress that binds Nigerians together.

Hon. Stephen Ogundipe called for gratitude to God while urging citizens to continue supporting the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda for sustainable leadership and economic growth.

Hon. Ladi Ajomale stressed that independence must always be linked with democracy. He added that Lagos continues to benefit from Tinubu’s visionary leadership, noting, “His footprints and skills are still being utilized to make sure Lagos State keeps moving forward.”

Lawmakers also commended Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his predecessor for maintaining Lagos’ development master plan, which has kept the state at the forefront of national progress.

In addition, the Assembly praised its Speaker, Rt. Hon. (Dr.) Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa, for his mastery of democratic processes and his role in strengthening the legislature, making the Lagos Assembly a reference point in governance across Africa.
