NWC Members Reject Anyanwu as PDP National Secretary

Eleven out of 19 members of the National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party have rejected the return of Senator Samuel Anyanwu as the party’s National Secretary.

In a joint statement issued on Wednesday, the 11 NWC members also insisted that the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting scheduled for Monday, 30 June, would take place as planned.

They dismissed the assertions made by the Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, that Anyanwu had been asked to resume duties and that the NEC meeting had been cancelled.

The NWC 11 argued that no individual or organ of the party has the constitutional authority to override NEC resolutions.

Senator Samuel Anyanwu, a prominent figure in the PDP, has faced challenges regarding his position as National Secretary.

Disputes arose over procedural issues and internal party disagreements, leading to his controversial removal and eventual attempts at reinstatement.

The conflict reflects broader tensions within the PDP, as various factions vie for influence and control in the lead-up to significant electoral contests.
