The Caretaker Committee Chairman (CTC) of Ikwerre Local Government Area in Rivers State, Darlington Orji, has declared an end to the era of diverting public funds for private use in Ikwerre LGA.
"You must give back to the people what belongs to them," Orji asserted on Nigeria Info’s Hard Facts, during a conversation about the Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s warning that CTCs should empower their people or be sacked.
The Ikwerre CTC Chairman explained that empowerment involves improving the lives of community members, and revealed that his administration has distributed financial aid to traders, describing its direct impact on the local economy.
“We gave out N60 million cash; N100,000 to 600 people,” he said.
When pressed to clarify the total financial allocation for his local government from the Federal Government, Orji said: “The money is within reach…we have our full allocation and we are giving back to the people.”
