Political analyst Professor Kenneth Nweke says it was out of place for the Rivers State commissioners who resigned after the cabinet reshuffle to say they ‘reject’ their redeployment.
Recall that in a recent circular issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Tammy Danagogo, Commissioner for Finance, Isaac Kamalu, and State Attorney General, Zacchaeus Adangor, were reassigned to new ministries. Kamalu was redeployed to the Ministry of Employment Generation and Economic Empowerment, while Adangor was shifted to the Ministry of Special Duties (Governor’s Office). Notably, both commissioners who resigned from their positions last December, are prominent allies of the former Minister of FCT, Nyesom Wike.
In his resignation letter, Mr. Adangor criticized the governor for interfering with his official duties. Similarly, Kamalu expressed disappointment that despite the involvement of President Bola Tinubu in resolving the political crisis in the state, efforts to maintain peace have been unsuccessful.
Reacting to this on Nigeria Info’s Hard Facts, Prof Nweke, a Professor of Political Science, said such outspoken resignations would have been unlikely during the previous administration under Gov Wike's tenure.
“Could any one of them have written at the time when Gov Wike was the governor to say I reject this redeployment?” he asked.
He stressed the importance of demonstrating loyalty, likening the role of commissioners to that of employees who should maintain allegiance until their departure.
