Godwin Emefiele

The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele has gone to court over an alleged plan to disqualify him from participating in the 2023 Presidential Election.

In a suit before a Federal High Court in Abuja, Mr. Emefiele is seeking clarification on his right to contest the 2023 election without resigning from his current position.

He is specifically asking the court to prevent the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from stopping him from contesting in presidential primaries and the 2023 elections.

His lawyer, Mike Ozekhome (SAN) filed the lawsuit on his behalf before Justice Ahmed Mohammed.

Emefiele is Our Member -APC

In the meantime, The Punch Newspaper is reporting that the All Progressives Congress (APC) has stated that Mr. Emefiele is a member of the party.

According to the paper, the chairman of Ward 6 in the Ika South Local Government Area of Delta State, Nduka Erikpume said the CBN governor had registered as an APC member.

“Yes, he has registered since February 2021. He is our member, the paper quoted Mr. Erikpume as telling one of its reporters.

On Saturday, the CBN governor admitted in a series of tweets that a presidential form had been bought in his name by a coalition of support groups.

He however said he hadn't decided whether to run in 2023.
