Governor Seyi Makinde has confirmed that two individuals lost their lives in the explosion that rocked Ibadan on Tuesday night, with an additional 77 sustaining injuries.

The Governor, who personally visited the scene of the incident, provided updates on the aftermath, stating that the injured have been swiftly taken to both private and public hospitals in the city for medical treatment.

Governor Makinde assured the public that the government would cover their medical bills and pledged to offer temporary accommodation for those whose residences were damaged in the explosion.

Addressing the cause of the explosion, Governor Makinde attributed it to explosive devices stored by illegal miners.

In his statement, he stated, "Preliminary investigations by security agencies revealed that illegal miners occupying one of the houses in Bodija had stored explosive devices there, which caused the blast. The investigations are ongoing, and all those found culpable for this will be brought to book."
