The Supreme Court has upheld the election victory of Babajide Sanwo-Olu as the Governor of Lagos State.

Both the state tribunal and the Appeal Court previously confirmed Sanwo-Olu's win.

The case brought by the Labour Party's candidate, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, centered on the eligibility of Sanwo-Olu's running mate.

Rhodes-Vivour alleged that Sanwo-Olu's deputy, Obafemi Hamzat, had relinquished his Nigerian citizenship.

The Supreme Court determined that Hamzat is indeed a Nigerian citizen by birth.

Furthermore, the court emphasized that any renunciation of citizenship by a natural-born citizen must be officially registered by the Nigerian president.

The appellant failed to provide evidence supporting this claim.

Consequently, the court dismissed the Labour Party candidate's appeal due to its lack of merit. Separately, Abdulazeez Adediran, also known as Jandor, representing the PDP, argued that the name Sanwo-Olu presented to INEC differed from the name on his WAEC certificate.
