Former Niger Delta agitator, Gabriel Asabuja, says the political crisis in Rivers State is not a struggle between riverine and upland communities, stressing that the forthcoming election will not follow such lines.
Asabuja made the assertion while speaking on Nigeria Info’s Morning Crossfire, reacting to the renewed political tension in the state. According to him, the current crisis is driven by personal interests and the selfish ambitions of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.
The FCT Minister recently embarked on a “thank you” tour of several local government areas in Rivers State to express appreciation to residents for their past support. During one of the visits, Wike advised traditional rulers to stay away from politics. This comment has sparked reactions among residents, with some suggesting that it may be a strategy to weaken support for the re-election of Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara.
Asabuja advised Governor Fubara to take urgent and practical steps by engaging and liaising with critical stakeholders to secure his second-term ambition.
