A caller on Nigeria Info FM’s Morning Crossfire, has expressed a unique perspective about the exit of 27 members of the Rivers State House of Assembly from the People’s Democratic Party, PDP to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.
This caller argued that the decamp of these lawmakers to the APC does not automatically result in the forfeiture of their seats, contrary to the widespread interpretation of the guidelines for cross-carpeting from one political party to another.
The 27 PDP lawmakers loyal to the FCT Minister and former governor of the state, Nyesom Wike, in their letters to the House, cited division at the national level of the party as the reason for defecting.
A situation that sparked debate about the status of their seats in the House.
This caller explained that until the court decides on the alleged division in the PDP the 27 House members remain lawmakers.
