The National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, says it is not true the agency gave out a bag of rice each to be distributed as relief materials across communities in the Ahoada West Local Government Area.
National Spokesperson of the agency, Manzo Ezekiel made the clarification on Nigeria Info’s Morning Crossfire.
Earlier, the youth leader of Obirikim-Ogba community, Dennis Lots in Ahoada West local government, one of the communities affected by the 2022 flood, had complained that one bag of rice, one bag of beans, one bag of garri, a carton of noodles, and eighteen tins of tomatoes were distributed by the council authority last week, to each of the flood-affected communities.
Manzo assured that investigations will be carried out to verify the claim stressing that the food items are meant to be distributed directly to individuals and not for a community to share.
“The bag of rice is for an individual and not a community’’ he said. Manzo also denied claims that relief materials are being hoarded for distribution after the 2023 floods.
Meanwhile, a caller on the MorningCrossfire wants the government’s handling of the flood situation in the country to move from just the distribution of relief materials to finding a permanent solution.
