The Chairman of Ijaw Youth Council, IYC, Kalabari Se-Ikpangi, Asikatams Edward claims a private security group identified as the ‘Amama Soldiers’ and formed by former Niger Delta Agitator, Asari Dokubo was engaged by the federal government under former President, Muhammadu Buhari to ensure security in certain parts of the country.

Asikatams made the disclosure in an interview on Nigeria Info’s Morning Crossfire, stating that the group’s operation covers the Emohua-Kalabari region of Rivers State in the South-South, parts of the North, and the South East.

This comes after a viral online video showing Asari Dokubo addressing a group of men during a parade while reaffirming his loyalty to President Bola Tinubu spurred criticism from Nigerians.

Asikitams also revealed that Amama soldiers were formally profiled by the Department of States Services, DSS during the establishment of the group and thus its allegiance is to the federal government of Nigeria.

He added that the group works in synergy with the DSS, Police, and the Nigerian Army and should be commended for having recorded some successes in its fight against insecurity in the past year.
