Professor, Usman Dakkar, a lecturer in the Department of Agricultural Science at the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT), has linked Nigeria's food crisis to the negative perception of agricultural practices in the country.
With food prices continually soaring, many face the threat of food insecurity.
Mr. Dakkar, who spoke on Nigeria Info FM’s Morning Crossfire, said matters related to agriculture are downplayed and do not receive adequate support, even from the government.
He stressed the need for comprehensive measures, starting from the family unit and extending to the government level, to rectify the prevailing negative perception about agriculture.
“When Buhari came up the other time and mentioned agriculture as the way out he was taunted”, a caller added, referencing efforts made by former President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration to ensure food sufficiency in the country.
This caller argued that the government should not be solely blamed for the current food crisis in the nation. He further urged citizens to support the government's efforts to tackle the food scarcity situation by actively engaging in agriculture.
